Giant induction coil picking up Audio 5 feet away!
This is an expanded video of my Giant Inductive pick up coil experiment.
Have you ever wondered how far the electromagnetic fields from power lines can be picked up? In this experiment I brought a large coil of wire with me far up in the mountains, and attached it to my audio amplifier, and much to my surprise, I still had a pretty strong 60 cycle AC hum at a great distance from the power lines.
The other reason I wanted to get away from the 60 Cycle AM hum, was that I wanted to see how far a giant inductive coil would be able to hear small electromagnetic signals powering the speaker in my small digital tape player.
Regarding my question about what you might hear, if you constructed a giant induction coil, I think the video at this link pretty well explains it.. ua-cam.com/video/iHY-GMrqK9A/v-deo.html
For anyone interested in knowing the coil size. I used two coils in this experiment. Each coil was wound on a spool that had 34 inch circumference, and each coil weighed about 6 pounds. The wire appears to be 30 gauge. You can use copper enamel magnet wire, or whatever you happen to have, but it seems that the larger the diameter of the spool it's wound on, the more sensitive it appears to be, and the more turns you have, the more sensitive it appears to be.
Have fun and please be safe.

    I recently installed a random Long Wire antenna, whose far end was close to the electrical lines that provide electricity to our homes, with the lines in our back yards ! On a whim, I attached a Green L.E.D. across the antenna lead to earth ground, and it does light the L.E.D. ! Moving the end if the wire away from the power lines, stops the lighting, proving in fact the electrical energy being inductively coupled to the wire ! Mind you, these are not extremely high voltage lines, where the induced voltages would be many times higher !

    I mean the last one you are just passing a radio signal into the power of the leds, we cant see those modulations in amplitude/frequency as they are being emitted in light form. The solar panel is made to capture light energy and covert it back into an electrical signal, that signal is being input into a receiver that is capable of decoding that signal, and processing it into sound. Radio waves are a type of light wave, sound waves are a mechanical waves and require a medium(air) to work. Another cool concept along the same lines, is turning a lightbulb or window into a microphone using a laser as a covert audio surveillance device.

    Your "audio oscilloscope" is a really clever idea. I'm thinking about modifying it so that the indication is a LED which glows more brightly as the signal gets stronger. BTW, I'm the person who designed the Anatek Blue ESR meters...

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair
      @GrantsPassTVRepair 4 дні тому

      Nice to meet you Bob. I built one of the blue ring testers kits you invented, and appreciate it's clever little compact design. I've experimented with variations of near field inductive probes, and noticed there are already inexpensive inductive probes with LEDs available for testing 120 volt mains, but I've never seen one specifically designed for testing small boost and buck coils, so it sounds like a good idea. One of my probes has an internal diode to rectify the electromagnetic oscillations, which I attach to my DC volt meter for more precise indications, but an LED light indicator, or even a built in audio amp could be handy. Especially if it had a sensitivity adjustment. Dave

      @@GrantsPassTVRepair Hi Dave. Right now I've got a PC power supply apart for replacing a lot of old electrolytic caps. Once I've done that, I'll do some experimenting with small RF chokes like yours to see if a simple circuit would do what's required. I have to be honest that it was the late John Bachman at Anatek who created his Blue version of the ring tester I originally designed way back in the 1990s.

    #1 It all has to do with phasing, if antenna A is out of phase with antenna B you will get what’s called destructive interference. If the two antennas are in phase with one another you will get what’s called Constructive interference. *_“Destructive interference is when two waves traveling in the same direction are aligned at the crest of one wave and the trough of the other. The waves cancel out. Constructive interference is when two waves traveling in the same direction overlap, and their crests combine to produce a larger wave.”_* #2 If two identical antennas are co phased correctly you will get a gain of 3 db however, the length of the cables used for the phasing harness has to be a ¼ wave length for the frequency that you are trying to receive so they will be in phase for that frequency and only for that one frequency, and the antennas need to be spaced a 1/4 wave length from one another again this is for the frequency that you are trying to receive so they will be in phase for that frequency and only for that one frequency. This could contribute to losses at other frequencies. #3 Most signal combiners or antenna combiners, at best have an insertion loss of 3db this 3db loss will mitigate any gain that you would get from combining the two identical antennas. When you combine two antennas you get 3 db of gain. Note: I have used two identical antennas stacked one above the other with a ¼ wave phasing harness made from 300 ohm twin lead cut for the ¼ wave length of frequency that I wanted to receive. The phasing harness was between two antennas that I wanted to co phase I attached the twin lead to the 300 ohm terminals of each of antenna then on the bottom antenna where the twin lead connected to the 300 ohm terminals I attached a 300 to 75 ohm balun so I could run coax cable to the TV’s. It worked very well with very little loss on the other channels. The advantage of using the 300 ohm twin lead is that it eliminates the signal combiners and the 3db of loss that the contribute.

    • @GrantsPassTVRepair

      No argument on that. Someone suggested it could be beneficial to hook them up in series. Ether way I understand why two out of phase antennas could weaken their output.
